Exploring roots to build the future
Il Tornitore Matto is the brainchild of Alberto Alessi. Created in collaboration with Giulio Iacchetti, it marks the beginning of a new, experimental design brand. Rooted in Alessi’s manufacturing heritage, the initiative is a spin-off, a collection of objects that combine design, industry and craftsmanship. The impulses behind this venture are many, but two stand out. One is the decorative arts movement. The Wiener Werkstätte, whose approach has been a constant reference point for Alberto Alessi over the years. Founded in 1903, the "Viennese Workshop" brought together many of the most talented artists of the period. Working hand in hand with artisans,
they created exquisite, refined artifacts. The second major impulse behind Il Tornitore Matto is Alice
in Wonderland, a world where the rules are mad. This refers to the freedom of the design from the typical constraints of industrial production, to give free rein to human creativity.
In this first chapter of the manufacturing adventure, which aims at poetic technique, nine designers participated, including Iacchetti. Each element of the collection is marked with the year of production and a serial number. Il Tornitore Matto is dedicated to lovers of applied art; to people who appreciate objects created on the border between industry and high craftsmanship; and to collectors looking for niche
objects to enrich their design gallery.

Serial uniqueness
In his Compressioni project, Paolo Ulian developed a new method of forming sheet metal, a method that reveals incredible expression. Comprising a basket, a centerpiece and an "unusual object", his triad of objects provides a suggestive synthesis of the experiments he carried out with a master turner by his side.
The three containers are first made on a lathe and then compressed to achieve their final shape. Trial after trial,
it became clear that the deformations caused by crushing the semi-finished products were relatively controllable variables. The folds created at the bottom of the objects arranged themselves almost magically into geometric patterns – squares, pentagons, hexagons and octagons – giving a fascinating regularity to the unique differences of the elements.

Slender objects inspired by the origins of shapes emanate a quiet charm, connecting with our deeply rooted desire
for unity and clarity. Original and fascinating, this object bears the traces of the complex procedure that created it.
The polished internal surface is the result of repeated firing processes that give the metal the necessary strength to survive multiple stages of production. The polished external surface has the iconic look of brass, whose luster enhances its
expression.

the creation of valuable materials that can be reused in the industrial
production process to create new products.

EASY CLEANING
The stainless steel basket and centerpiece can be washed by hand with warm water, a soft sponge and non-abrasive soap or in a dishwasher.
