Legend has it that in 1994, when Alessandro Mendini created the Anna G. wine opener, he sought to immortalize the beauty of his great love for a mysterious woman.
Few people realize that the name of the corkscrew, "Anna G.," comes from the real person Anna Gili, a designer from Umbria who designs animals. It was Alberto Alessi who came up with the idea of suggesting this name, noticing similarities between the image of the corkscrew and the image of the real Anna: her hairstyle and long neck, her gaze, her dance-like movements. At the beginning of this project, I took Oscar Schlemmer's mannequins, rooted in their dynamic theater, as my point of reference. And then I remembered that as a child, when my grandmother opened a bottle of wine at the table, it always seemed like a good performance, a kind of ritual ballet: the turning of the head, the up-and-down movements of the hands, the sound of the cork popping out of the bottle. That's when I decided on an anthropomorphic object. I drew a ballerina, a female figure. However, it was obvious that subconsciously I had drawn a portrait of Anna; she was the inspiration. I created an authentic, true portrait, a "Designer Portrait." Now, as this object enters its twentieth year, it must be said
that the name "Anna G." has indeed brought it good fortune. It was later officially presented at the Groninger Museum – which is also celebrating its twentieth anniversary – and since then, this corkscrew has enjoyed widespread popularity, becoming a symbiotic icon in every home. And now, to celebrate this event, I have come up with a special edition. I dressed "Anna G." in a tribal dance mask, perhaps fitting for the forests and legends of Umbria, perhaps fitting for the theatrical feats of the Bauhaus. A new, specially designed performance for this occasion.

To this day, one cannot remain indifferent to this product, which is why it is perfect as a gift that will look beautiful on a bar or table during wine conversations.

The presented item is a "butterfly" type opener with a height of 24.5 cm. Two slender arms, stylized as female hands, serve as a lever to pull the cork out of the bottle. Once the cork is removed, it remains inside the corkscrew, allowing us to immediately place it on the table or bar without having to twist the cork out. The cork is removed before the next use of the corkscrew.

Due to the great popularity of the product, new variations on the Anna G. theme have emerged, making it possible to assemble a beautiful collection consisting of wine stoppers, a champagne stopper, timers, a folding cake stand, or a teaspoon.
