From scrap to craft

For his first collaboration with Alessi, the Anglo-Canadian designer Philippe Malouin created a coffee maker in a way that is completely unprecedented in the company's history. Malouin's work is renowned for its unique ability for formal synthesis, which takes metal scraps and gives them new life by reconfiguring and reinterpreting them.

The Vite project was born during a visit to the Ossola scrapyard, where Malouin identified a series of archetypal forms and combined them into diverse elements that nonetheless differ from classical minimalism. On the contrary, his design language consists of simple, basic geometries, often violently abbreviated and recomposed with the intuitive immediacy of a primary gesture. This approach places his practice on the plate between design and art, where the act of assembly becomes an authentic language of expression. Malouin himself speaks of "Scrapyard Works", a creative method that literally begins in the scrapyard. There, the designer selects fragments of formal proposals. From these studies, one configuration was chosen to form the basis for the development of the final product. Colour is the second leitmotif of the Vite collection. The coffee maker is offered in a palette of green, brick red, and grey; chromatic variations come from research conducted in the Alessi workshop, where the shades of machines, tools, and other elements of the factory environment were sampled and transformed into a sophisticated colour system.

Dedicated to those who appreciate bold, contemporary design that combines functionality and originality in everyday objects. Made of die-cast aluminium and composed of: a boiler with a valve, an upper microfilter, a gasket, a funnel filter, a container with a handle, and a lid with a knob where the coffee collects.

Evocative shape The boiler of the coffee maker resembles a screw (in Italian "vite"), which is a direct reference to the gesture that accompanies the use of the object. A small, expanding rim at the base of the boiler, resembling a screw head, reinforces this reference. Contrasting with the colour of the tank, the natural aluminium of the boiler further emphasizes this symbolic value. An object with a strong mechanical identity, yet almost ironic in its reference to the rigidity of the industrial world. A coffee maker with a sculptural language, softened by a balanced sense of proportion and an obsessive attention to detail — a characteristic hallmark of Malouin's poetics.

Colourful identity In contrast to the aluminium body, the knob, handle, and top are coloured, paying homage to industrial workshop hues in a sophisticated dialogue between the object and its place of production. For excellent coffee Made of aluminium, a material that gives espresso a full flavour.

EASY TO USE Vite does not require special preparation for brewing coffee compared to a traditional coffee maker. Fill the boiler with cold water, being careful not to exceed the safety valve. Place the funnel filter in the boiler. Fill the filter with coffee, without pressing it too firmly. Close by screwing the upper container to the boiler.

MAXIMUM EASE OF CLEANING Wash under warm running water with a soft cloth. Avoid washing in the dishwasher.

EASY TO MAINTAIN Periodically clean the inside of the coffee spout, the upper microfilter, the gasket, and the funnel filter. In case of damage, the funnel filter, handle, knob, upper microfilter, and silicone gasket can be replaced.
